The Review – April 10th, 2018

Summer 2018 will be bringing what is arguably the Bard of Avon’s most popular work to Hawkesbury. Indeed, the evening of July 15 will hold Shakespeare-in-the Park, an annual event by Montreal’s own Repercussion Theatre.

The chosen play for this year is none other than Romeo and Juliet, a special choice worthy of the theatre company’s 30-year anniversary.

Repercussion Artistic Director, Amanda Kellock, states on their website that “Romeo and Juliet is a beautiful, tragic tale of young people galloping full speed towards love, in a world calcified by hate. That feels pretty necessary right now”.

“We’re re-imagining Romeo and Juliet through an expanded, more inclusive lens in order to celebrate our collective diversity and affirm that love is love is love,” stated Kellock.

The show will be taking place on-stage at Hawkesbury’s Place des Pionniers on the evening of Sunday, July 15, 2018. The play will be entirely in English.

“The event is completely free for everyone,” said Nicole Trudeau, Director of Recreation and Tourism at the Town of Hawkesbury. “It’s a family event, so it’s appropriate for everyone. People are free to bring chairs, blankets… Make an evening out of it!”

Trudeau stated that more information on the event will be made available soon through Hawkesbury’s Recreation and tourism Facebook page, its website and the local papers.
