In the News

Repercussion Theatre’s Board of Directors is thrilled to announce the appointment of a new leader, heralding a shift in the company’s structure and approach to its beloved Shakespeare-in-the-park tour.

After a robust leadership search, the Board of Directors of Repercussion Theatre has enthusiastically appointed Catherine Savoie as Artistic and Managing Director of the organization. A bilingual creator and arts manager with a long-standing love for Repercussion, Catherine is perfectly-placed to work with the board to ensure Repercussion’s artistic and organizational integrity into the future. This appointment coincides with a shift in the company’s structure, which will see the engagement of Seasonal Lead Creators each year, to partner with Catherine in planning the following summer’s Shakespeare-in-the-Park offering, as well as exploring outreach and development opportunities.

Outgoing Artistic Director, Amanda Kellock, describes the change in approach as innovative and full of possibility: “This updated structure will breathe new life into Repercussion’s programming, and will allow each season to be led in a unique way depending on the artist(s) involved, with Catherine as the anchor – infusing the work with her sense of care, creativity and rigour. I’m truly so excited for Catherine and Repercussion and the communities to whom this organization is so dear.”

Catherine, who has roots in artistic practice and a master’s degree in Cultural Organization Management from H.E.C., brings with her a passion for inclusion, feminism, social engagement and, of course, making great theatre.

“I’m beyond excited to step into the role of Artistic and Managing Director at Repercussion Theatre. Repercussion’s mission resonates deeply with me because I have always loved the classics, as well as finding new ways to make the classics accessible to all and relevant to the world we live in today. I can’t wait to help bring productions to life that speak to both our time and our past. As a bilingual artist, I hope to strengthen connections between our two artistic worlds and offer our productions to an even broader audience. With this new organizational structure, we have an exciting opportunity to reinvent ourselves each year through inspiring collaborations. It’s a true privilege to become part of a company with such a rich history, and I’m excited to help shape its future with our amazing community of artists, theatre professionals, members and supporters”.

Catherine Savoie

Incoming Artistic and Managing Director

Catherine is a creator and manager in the performing arts. A bilingual performer, she has been part of the cast of several theater and musical theater productions, including Spring Awakening, La chute de l’or blanc, The Virgin Courtesan, and Sabrina Fair. She was actively involved for several years on the board of directors of Théâtre Exaltemps and contributed to the development of multiple projects with this company, including Noël 1933, which toured in Quebec from 2009 to 2017.

Passionate about documentary theater, she co-translated and co-produced the documentary play L’incendie de la Triangle Factory, in which she also portrayed the role of Margaret Schwartz. In 2016, she partnered with her longtime colleague Nathan LeLièvre to create Légèretés, a tailor-made concert showcasing their soprano and light tenor vocal timbres.

With a strong interest in arts management and artist well-being, she chose to further her expertise by completing a master’s degree in Cultural Organization Management at HEC Montréal. She is pursuing her dream of artistic management and creation in alignment with her values of inclusion, feminism, and social engagement. She carries a desire to highlight current subjects that are close to her heart, such as gender identity, feminism and neurodivergence.

As she is taking on board her new position as Artistic and Managing Director at Repercussion theatre, she is also working on some original musical theatre works and is involved in the translation of pieces from the musical theatre repertoire.

From October 2024:

Repercussion Theatre’s Board of Directors announces the departure of Artistic Director, Amanda Kellock (in Spring 2025)

After nearly 10 years at the helm of Montreal’s beloved Repercussion Theatre, Amanda Kellock will be stepping aside as Artistic and Executive Director to make way for new leadership.

Amanda was chosen as Artistic Director in 2015 and came to the role with a long-standing love of and relationship to Montreal’s Shakespeare-in-the-Park. Having attended the shows as a teen, she first performed with Repercussion as Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2004 and has since directed or acted in over a dozen productions for the company. She came to the role of Artistic Director with a commitment to reflecting Montréal’s rich diversity on and off stage, and to expanding the notion of who “gets” to do Shakespeare. During her tenure, she brought a blend of artistic excellence and social relevance to her Shakespeare-in-the-Park programming, deepening relationships with park partners and community stakeholders, and striving to put Repercussion on the national map. With the creation of Words With Will – Repercussion’s play development program – in 2017, she invited talented and thought-provoking writers to “talk back” to Shakespeare, expanding the company’s scope and helping to contribute to the ongoing creation of a new canon.

“On behalf of the Repercussion community, donors, audience members and all the artists that have had the privilege to work with Amanda, we as a Board would like to thank her for all that she has given this organization over the past years. Her leadership and vision has seen us through some extremely challenging times and set a foundation for Repercussion to continue to serve our diverse audience through thoughtful, engaged approaches to timeless material. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”
– Christopher Kent, Board President

“I’m incredibly proud of the work that the company has done during my time as Artistic Director, including how we navigated the uncertainty of Covid lockdowns. There have been challenges, of course, and I always wished I could do more, but I’ve learned so much since I first stepped into this role, and am so grateful to everyone who has been part of the Repercussion family, including our audiences, over the past 10 years. Overall, I’ve tried to make good art, to bring thoughtful magic to the shows we’ve created, and to engage our audiences in a meaningful conversation. But I have also struggled for many years to balance this important work with an ongoing illness in my family, and have reached the point where I need to recalibrate. Now it’s time to pass the torch to someone else, to see what else is possible, both for Repercussion and in my own artistic journey.”
– Amanda Kellock, outgoing Artistic Director

The search for new leadership will be announced in the coming days.

On the topic of new leadership, Amanda is optimistic about the future: “This is a company that is beloved by so many, and has such an important role in this city and beyond. There are always challenges when running a non-profit arts organization, so the course ahead will not always be smooth sailing. But theatre people are resourceful and resilient, and I’m excited to see who will step up to guide this ship through the next phase of its journey. I look forward to providing as much (or as little!) guidance and support as the next captain(s) will want.”
