Professional Shakespeare Training I and II are designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of the basic tools needed to act Shakespeare. Special attention is given to voice, text analysis and scene work. Once mastered, this particular specialization will help you excel in all aspects of your acting career - be it voice work, film and television, or the whole range of the theatre repertoire from Shakespeare to Mamet.
Shakespeare Level I
Intensive course with Paul Hopkins, Repercussion Theatre’s Artistic Director, and Rea Nolan (26 hours)
Schedule
2 weekends starting Friday, October 17th and ending Sunday Oct 26th
Fridays 7 - 10 pm (3 hours)
Saturdays 12 - 6pm (5 hours plus 1 hour break)
Sundays 12 - 6pm (5 hours plus 1 hour break)
This intensive course will introduce students to all the basic tools used for acting Shakespeare, including text analysis, and use of punctuation, argument, Shakespeare’s folio, and the particulars of verse.

Shakespeare Level II
Scene study with Peter Farbridge and Rea Nolan (26 hours)
Schedule
Oct. 29th – Nov. 19th Wednesdays 6:30 – 9:30pm
Nov. 26th – Dec. 6th Wednesdays 6:30 – 9:30pm and Saturdays 2-5pm
Saturday Dec. 6th Final presentation at 7pm
Building on the tools and vocabulary acquired in Shakespeare I this course will focus on performing Shakespeare with special attention to fusing the basics of acting to performing Shakespeare. It will end with a presentation for invited guests and working professionals. Students will be expected to do work outside of the class.
Prerequisite - Shakespeare level 1 or equivalent experience required.
*Cost: $350 (not including taxes)
* A discount of $50 will be given to anyone who choose to take Shakespeare I and II together this fall.
TEACHERS BIOS
Peter Farbridge
Peter has been acting professionally for 20 years in Montreal and Toronto, most notably with Modern Times Stage Company of Toronto. His professional experience playing Shakespeare includes title roles in Hamlet and Macbeth, Mercutio in Romeo & Juliet, and various notable performances in productions of Twelfth Night, Cymbeline, and Anthony and Cleopatra. Through the work of Modern Times, as well as through training at the Stratford Festival and Shakespeare and Co. (Massachusetts), Peter has developed a personal approach to Shakespearean text that emphasizes freeing the actor's body. He has taught in various institutions, EMSPA (Kingston, Jamaica), Opera McGill (Montreal), ESTHEM (Montreal) and continues to give private workshops in Shakespeare and monologue.
Paul Hopkins
Prior to joining Repercussion Theatre as Artistic Director, Paul performed as "Benedick" in Richard Rose’s production of Much Ado About Nothing and spent two years acting on the stages of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival where he was selected for Stratford’s prestigious Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre Training. Paul also holds a BFA (Specialization in Theatre Performance) from Concordia University.
Rea Nolan
Rea currently teaches voice in the Theatre Departments at John Abbott College and at Concordia University. She holds a BFA in Theatre Performance from Concordia University, and an MA in Voice Studies from the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, England. During her graduate degree, she worked with Cicely Berry, Voice Director at the Royal Shakespeare Company in England.
