Professional Shakespeare Training I and II are designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of the basic tools needed to act Shakespeare. Special attention is given to voice, text analysis and scene work. Once mastered, this particular specialization will help you excel in all aspects of your acting career - be it voice work, film and television, or the whole range of the theatre repertoire from Shakespeare to Mamet.
Shakespeare Level I
Intensive course with Paul Hopkins, Repercussion Theatre’s Artistic Director (16 hours).
This intensive course will introduce students to all the basic tools used for acting Shakespeare, including text analysis, and use of punctuation, argument, Shakespeare’s folio, and the particulars of verse.
Shakespeare: Master Class Intensive
Scene study with Domini Blyth, Douglas Campbell and Moira Wylie (30 hours)
A must for anyone truly interested in performing Shakespeare, Repercussion Theatre is proud to host three of Canada’s most revered classical theatre artists. Using the text of As You Like It, participants will share our coach’s vast experience and expertise
Prerequisite - Shakespeare level I and II, or equivalent professional or training experience required.
TEACHERS BIOS
Domini Blythe
Born in England, Domini Blythe has made Canada her home since 1972. Theatre lovers everywhere know Domini; having performed on the stages of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival for 11 seasons, on Broadway in the Tony-nominated production of King Lear, and with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Domini has worked with some of classical theatre’s most important directors including Robin Philips, John Hirch, Jonathan Miller, Richard Monette and most recently Peter Hinton. She is also an accomplished teacher having taught at Concordia University and the National Theatre School in Montreal, and, conducted workshops at universities across the United States.
Douglas Campbell
Best known for his long association with the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, Mr. Campbell came to attention almost as soon as the Festival began, performing in such works as Tyrone Guthrie’s Oedipus Rex (1955) and Michael Langham’s celebrated Henry V (1956). Since, he has performed roles throughout the classical and modern repertoire, receiving accolades all along the way for his distinguished portrayals. His performance as Orgon in John Hirsch‘s production of Tartuffe, was particularly well received. And in 2000, he appeared in Centaur Theatre ‘s productions of The Crucible and The Gin Game. Mr. Campbell’s Stratford directorial experience includes Wycherley’s The Country Wife, Julius Caesar and The Alchemist.
Paul Hopkins
Prior to joining Repercussion Theatre as Artistic Director, Paul performed as "Benedick" in Richard Rose’s production of Much Ado About Nothing and spent two years acting on the stages of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival where he was selected for Stratford’s prestigious Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre Training. Paul also holds a BFA (Specialization in Theatre Performance) from Concordia University.
Moira Wylie
Since leaving England, Ms. Wylie has worked in some of the top classical theatre companies in North America including The Guthrie and The San Diego Shakespeare Festival. For Bard on the Beach, she appeared in several productions including Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing and The Comedy of Errors, as well as directed productions of Henry IV, Part 1 and Macbeth. As an actor, she has performed as Simone de Beauvoir in the award-winning Canadian play Tête-à-Tête (Bristol Riverside) opposite her husband, Douglas Campbell. Moira now calls Montreal home where she has appeared in The Cripple of Inishma’an (Centaur Theatre), in Hedda Gabler (Saidye Bronfman) and most recently in The Soldier’s Tale at The National Arts Centre.
