The Play

Proudly announcing the 2016 Summer Tour of: The Tragedy of Julius Caesar

Repercussion Theatre presents an all-female production of Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Julius Caesar.  This political drama investigates the fine line between personal ambition and the general good, and —with a cast of only women— explores the relationship between gender and power. The production includes a high level of stage combat, live drumming, and (as always) a strong aesthetic style.

The rule of Rome and the protection of the general good are at stake when Julius Caesar returns from civil war to a hero’s welcome. The people abandon their work and rejoice, decorating even the image of Caesar – much to the chagrin of Rome’s Tribunes and the distress of the more Republican-minded members of Caesar’s own entourage. Political opinions clash, as the people call for Caesar to be crowned, and Caius Cassius coordinates a conspiracy bent on putting an end to Caesar’s ambition. Tensions mount, and blades are kept close at hand, as the best interests of the people, and the future of Rome herself, stand on the edge of chaos.
