Repercussion Theatre Co-produces DEADLY SIN, Macbeth in Hell: A Cabaret!
June 15, 2011
MONTREAL, June 15th, 2011 – Repercussion Theatre is horrified to announce the upcoming co-production of DEADLY SIN, Macbeth in Hell: A Cabaret! as the Grand Closing Concert for the 9th annual Festival Montréal Baroque. The performance will take place on June 26th at 7:00pm in the Salle de la Commune, Marché Bonsecours in Montreal’s Vieux Port.
The spirit of cabaret will be undeniable as Repercussion Theatre’s Artistic Director Paul Hopkins directs DEADLY SIN, a gory tale of pride, anger, avarice and blood. “I think our audience will have fun going through hell with this performance”, says Hopkins. “This will be Shakespeare like you’ve never seen it before. Darker, sexier, more musical and more cabaret.”
The audience of DEADLY SIN will witness a story that is riddled with sin as Macbeth and Lady Macbeth relive their mortal adventures in hell! The Bard’s great tragedy will be the basis for this new musical theatre piece, set against a baroque soundtrack of 17th century works by such composers as Henry Purcell, John Blow and John Eccles. Musical Director Matthias Maute will construct the score to illustrate this classic play and conduct the musicians. With tabled seating and a donations-based bar, cabaret, Shakespeare and the baroque will come together to create an incomparable experience.
The performance will be hosted by the ever-immoral Mistress of Ceremonies: Vice, played by seasoned film, TV and stage actress and cabaret-extraordinaire Danette Mackay. Paul Hopkins, an experienced Shakespearean actor, will play the role of Macbeth, and Lady Macbeth will be played by Anana Rydvald, a seasoned actress and MECCA award-winner. In addition to the actors, 8 singers and 12 musicians will flood the stage for this decadent evening of Baroque.
