Repercussion Theatre Announces Summer Tour of Macbeth by William Shakespeare

June 02, 2011

Montreal, June 2nd, 2011 – This summer, over 400 years after its debut at the Globe Theatre in London, Repercussion Theatre, with the support of Le Conseil des arts de Montréal en tournée, is very pleased to bring its own interpretation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth to parks across Montreal. Bloody murder. Twisted romance. The story of one man’s ambition, the natural and supernatural forces that motivate him, and the ill-fated reign he tries to maintain. An audacious journey into one man’s nightmare, Macbeth will envelop you in the tale of how absolute power corrupts… the soul. The play will run from July 28th to August 21st.
The performance will be directed by up and coming Montreal Director Arianna Bardesono, who will be bringing her own vision of the tragedy to the parks. “This year’s production will be set in North America, in our time,” says Bardesono. “We aim to grab your hearts and guts with our production, keeping you locked in your seats for a 2-hour ride through a whirlwind rise and fall and rise to power.” Repercussion Theatre will also be joined this year by two emerging designers for the production; Cassandre Chatonnier, a recent graduate of Concordia University, will be designing the set, and Laurence Mongeau, a recent graduate of The National Theatre School, will be designing costumes.

Repercussion Theatre’s own Artistic Director Paul Hopkins will play the role of Macbeth. A seasoned Montreal actor, Hopkins touts Repercussion’ resilience, “This year, despite deep cuts in funding, Repercussion Theatre is committed to bringing an exciting, mystifying performance of Macbeth, with some of Montreal’s finest actors to our beautiful parks.”

As always, this year’s performances are free to the public, and donations will be warmly accepted at all locations. Also, Repercussion Theatre hosts a food-drive every year, so please bring a non-perishable food item (or two!) with you. Don’t forget your chairs and blankets, or support Repercussion Theatre by renting a chair on-site.
